He is a regular artiste of All India Radio and Doordarshan (National Television). He is an empaneled artiste of Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), Govt. of India. Kalyan has stood 1st in the All India Radio Music Competition, 2015 and won the President’s Award. He is a recipient of the National Scholarship given by the Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India. He has been conferred the prestigious Ravi Koppikar Memorial Award, 2015 by ITC-SRA (West), IFFA and Music Forum at Mumbai. He is a recipient of the Citi-NCPA Scholarship. He has also stood 1st in the Rajya Yuva Utsav organised by the Govt. of West Bengal in the year 2015-16. He has been conferred the prestigious Telegraph Award, 2014 for his outstanding talent as a Sitarist along with a gold medal. He has also stood 1st in the Dover Lane Talent Search Contest 2012-13 and won the Nikhil Banerjee Memorial Trophy. He received the Yuva Gandharv Puraskar, 2021 from Durlabh Sundrivadya Kala Akademi, Solapur. Sangeet Kala Kendra, Agra has bestowed upon him the prestigious title of “Naad Sadhak” in the year 2016. He gave his first Sitar recital at the age of 6 at the prestigious G.D. Birla Sabhaghar in Kolkata. Born in a musical family, Kalyan was touted as a child prodigy. He could sing out notations of any tune and identify Ragas when he was just three years old. Kalyan formally started learning Sitar from his father Pt Subhajit Majumdar at the age of four. Thereafter he learnt Sitar from Pt. Soumitra Lahiri and the sarod maestro Pt. Buddhadev Das Gupta. He is currently an A+ Grade Musician Scholar at ITC Sangeet Research Academy under the guidance of Pt. Partho Chatterjee. Kalyan has also had the rare opportunity to collaborate with legendary musicians like Hariharan, Vid. L. Subramanium, Ustad Rashid Khan, Kavita Krishnamurthy, Shankar Mahadevan, Shubha Mudgal, Usha Uthup, Udit Narayan, Alka Yagnik, Papon, Rekha Bhardwaj, Mohit Chauhan, Sourendro-Soumyojit, Sraboni Sen, Pt. Abhijit Banerjee, Utd Akram Khan, Pt. Ajay Prasanna, Sriradha Banerjee, Manomoy Bhattacharya, Sahana Bajpaie, Padmabhushan Guru Rewben, Hooligaanism (Bengali Pop Band) and many more. He has also recently performed in the Background Score of the hit Bengali movie “Ballabhpurer Roopkotha” by Anirban Bhattacharya and “Shontaan” by Raj Chakraborty. He has also recently performed for the Bengali films “Binodiini” from Dev Entertainment Ventures and “Bhutopurbo”. He has also performed as a Playback Sitarist for the character of Dr. Bhujangadhar, for the Hoichoi Original Web Series “Byomkesh O Pinjrapol” starring Anirban Bhattacharya. He has also performed in the Background Score of the Documentary film on Ramkrishna Mission released on the 125th year of Ramkrishna Mission, for ABP Ananda – a leading television channel. He has also performed in various Indo-Western Fusion Collaborations with a variety of instruments which includes the Handpan, Western Viola, and many more. Kalyan has received rave reviews from leading newspapers of India such as The Hindu, The Statesman, The Times of India, Hindustan Times, The Telegraph and many other leading regional (Bengali, Hindi, Punjabi, Telugu, Marathi) newspapers from all over India.
